Irish downhill racer Glyn O’Brien has joined Nukeproof’s rider support programme, and is looking forward to representing the brand at gravity enduro, downhill and plenty of other mountain bike events throughout 2012 and beyond.
We spoke to Glyn on the new deal, his new bikes and the big competitions he’ll be entering this year:
“It’s great to be on the Nukeproof program. I’ve taken a back seat this past few years from the racing scene but still been riding loads in the background. To be riding for a local company and working with a fantastic bunch of guys, it all feels like the natural thing to do. Nukeproof have some excellent products and thrive to progress. I’m well excited for the future.”
Glyn recently visited us to pick up the Nukeproof Mega he’ll be riding during the winter (see picture), and earlier next year he’ll receive a race-ready Nukeproof Scalp for punching out downhill runs plus a Snap for shredding the pumptrack and dirt jumps.
My race bike will be the same as production and it will not need any fancy extras as it will be blinged out with top notch Nukeproof kit and SRAM X0. The Rockshox Reverb seatpost even comes as standard. Why change a good thing huh!
“My role as Ambassador for Nukeproof is going to have me doing a huge variety of things. Anything from coaching, organising events, adventure racing right through to downhill and gravity enduro events. My main focus is on gravity enduro style events at a local and national level and I hope to be out there for the Mega Avalanche in July and some Crankworx action in Canada.”
Along with Colin Finley and Niall Davis, Glyn’s been heavily involved with the organisation of the new Irish Gravity Enduro series – a five race series with round four hosting the Irish National Champs. “We feel this style of racing is the future for mountain biking as it’s so much more appealing to the masses,” added Glyn. “I would just like to say thanks to Michael Cowan and the guys at Nukeproof for helping me out and giving me the opportunity. Also a big high-five to my buddy Dave Watson out there in Canada, Sombrio for life!”
good luck glyn with the new 2012 season.
